Welcome, to Bear Facts 70's

You all know me by now but I don't know all of you! So......send me some info on yourselves or whatever you want to share.

A little about me......I've been married to Marion for 25 yrs. and we have 3 kids: Macey-24-married-lives in Arlington, Merick-19-single-lives at home-working, and Dyllon-6-will be in 1st grade-diagnosed with leukemia 6-6-01-is in remission-holy terror! We have lived in Poolville Texas for 15 yrs. We have 20 something cats, 5 dogs, and a pig, and yes, they all have names! LOL!

I am really looking forward to the 70's decade reunion and meeting each of you either there or on here. Some of us go a long ways back, some of us are just meeting, but no matter, new or old friends, we are all BEARS and we all have great memories to share. So let me hear from you soon!!!!!!!

Welcome, to Bear Facts 70's

A big Bear Welcome to: Barbie Jaynes (Brewer) '79, Cheryl LaFountain (Scheetz) '70, and Roxanne Rogers (Enos) '73.

Some of you liked the name 'The Bear Cave,
(read the writings on the walls)"
so it will be a closing note!

Hi One and All. This is Barbie Jaynes Brewer. I am a member of the class of 1979 and Coordinator of the '70s Decade Reunion. I just wanted to express ahead of time, a thank you to all who have been helping out on this memorial event. I know that each and everyone has other priorities in their lives, and just to take time to help with planning, gathering list, getting letters printed, decorations, fund raising and anything else that had been done or will be taking place, is a call above and beyond. I am excited about getting to meet my new friends, friends that I have known, and to talk of and tell of friends that are no longer with us, their memories still being a part of us. Early in our decade their has been loss because of the Vietnam War, one that only we, of the later years of the decade, will never get to meet in this life but will feel they have been a part of our lives through those who did know them. And in reverse, those of the later years, talking to those of the earlier years and having those same feelings. This reunion is one not only to be a "class" reunion, but a family reunion. We are the history of CF Brewer High School, and we will carry that on to the students of the present and future. I look forward to finally meeting the "other" members of my school family. Paraphrasing the last line of the first verse of the school song, "Pledging my all to you," Barbie

Hi, Everyone!
I'm Cheryl LaFountain Scheetz Class of 1970
Married - Tony Scheetz -Arlington Heights High School Class of 1970
Three children
Jeremy Wayne Norton - 32 yrs- married
Cherie Janice Norton - 30 yrs - single
Kellie Ann Scheetz-27 yrs - married/single/etc. (hahahaha hasn't made the plunge yet but they have two children)
Four grandchildren:
one granddaughter - Devin Shae Norton - 6 yrs
three grandsons - Taylor Anthony Westbrook - 3 yrs,
Mason Don Westbrook - 22 months,
Jaxon Kade Norton - 8 months

I live in Somervell County (outside Glen Rose) on 22 acres. we have two adopted dogs (thanks to my grandsons father who thought they needed puppies and then we raise them, one is a yellow lab and the other is a miniature pinscher what a difference they are.)
i have from 6-16 cats and kittens, it is survival of the fittest at our place so the population differs from month to month. lots of birds and frogs and other creepy crawly things. i lived in fort worth until 18 years ago and this was a definite"culture shock" at first but now i wouldn't trade my life here for anything. peace and quiet most of the time.

my husband, Tony works for TXU at the nuclear plant. he has been there for 20 years.
i have worked five years for the newspaper here called the Glen Rose Reporter. i love it. there are only four who work there and the owner. small and family-like.
before that i was an insurance agent for about three years and before that i returned to school and graduated with an associates degree from weatherford college in 1994 (with honors) as a 42 year old. what a deal that was. i am proud to know that i finally did get to go back to school and complete my education. maybe someday i will get a bachelors degree but no hurry. maybe by the time i am 60 hahaha.

just some info to share and help you fill the newsletter. it will be slow at first but the more people get into it there will be more. some will just like to keep up by reading so it is up to the ones who like to talk to keep it going. i have sent in a couple of things to the Beartracks 60s but most of the time i just read their input and laugh at how much some people can remember. i don't have that great of a memory about details but sometimes they strike a memory i had and i just smile. sometimes i actually remember another aspect of their story, cause i wasn't involved, i was just watching quietly on the sideline.

take care and keep in touch.

I Wanna be a bear!
*God's favorite creature must be the female bear.
*If you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.
*Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that, too.
*If you're a bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts)
*While you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.
*If you're a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.
*If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.
*Yup ..... I wanna be a bear!

To the members of the classes of the '70s decade: It has been requested that a float for the White Settlement's Day parade be entered featuring classmates of the decade. This request is in association with those who are from the '50s and '60s decades, also entering in the parade. Any out there that would be interested would need to take charge contacting others to help out with decorating the float. Those greatly involved with the reunion more than likely will be too in depth with the final plans for the reunion and will not be able to help with getting the float together but may be able to participate in the parade where needed. Please, anyone who would like to take this project, make your announcement in this newsletter and where ever an announce may be needed. An application for being in the parade can be acquired by the City of White Settlement business office.
Thank you, Barbie Jaynes Brewer '79

To Kay Snapka '73:
Your brother made some rings for me, years ago. I can’t remember where his store was in Benbrook or White Settlement? Of course I also knew your Father. I bought a lot of stuff from him over the years. I loved going in his place.I would go in there and spend the whole day looking around at all the stuff that he had in there. He was truly an amazing man. You could ask him for an item and he could walk right to it.
Roger Littlefield '70

Roger, that was so well put! And
Thank You! My dad was
truly an amazing man in many ways!
July 29th he will have been gone 3 years

So jump right in, we want to hear from you!

This was sent in by Roxane Rogers '73:
My Dad was cleaning out my grandmother's house and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea.
She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I
knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to "sprinkle"
clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

A BIG BEAR WELCOME TO:
Erma Barnes (Stites) '62
*******************************
To All:
Many of you will remember Erma from the Silver Wheel Skating Rink. She asked to be on the mailing list as she knows a lot of us from the 70's and probably has a lot of memories to share! (Go easy on us, Erma!) LOL! She is very involved with the 62 reunion, the Exes assoc., and active on Bear Tracks 60s and always has such good input for it. Let us hear from you, Erma!

I would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to Carolyn Dean Pillutla, Class of '79 for putting together and keeping up with all of the changes on the Reunion Website. She has made wording changes, email changes and taking out old and putting in new information as is comes around. She has been a wonderful sport about this, and she is doing this to be a part of the reunioin, knowing that she may not be able to come (she has a 1 1/2 yr old at home and they live in CA). KUDOs Carolyn,
Barbie '79
*******************************
I, too, think Carolyn has done an
outstanding job on the web site.
THANKS, CAROLYN!
*******************************
Cheryl '70........I dont know how quite to respond to your comments, but I guess that must be me. Hopefully, 30 some years have mellowed me somewhat and I am not a "brat" any longer. Actually, I have three "brats" of my own now...Jon 28, married, a navy vet who just graduated from University of Memphis. Michael, 27 engaged to a beautiful girl who is a pharmasist with Walgreens Drug in Nashville and PJ(Paul John) 19.......an aspiring pharmacy student at the University of Tennessee. They really are not brats, I am blessed to have such great kids. I have been married for 17 years to my second wife, Kim and we have a nice home in Brentwood Tennessee where we have lived the past eleven years.

The only Brewer grad I have stayed in regular contact with is Darrel Mitchell. You probably remember Darrel as one of the gang. He still lives in FW and has worked at TXU for 31 years. Before I sold my lake house, DM would come up and ski with me, now that it is sold, we go scuba diving every November to some pretty neat places; Aruba, Cozumel, Cancun. I scuba dive with my family to places like Carasoua, the Caymans, etc....... We are going to Bonaire after XMAS. We just returned Friday from Florida deep sea fishing. We stay busy.

Well, I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. Hopefully, it is not too late (after thirty years) for being a brat. I do! Take care,
Jerry Pressley '70

It's never too late!
I think a lot of us had a little "brat" in us
back then. Heck, I probably still do! hehe!
********************************
To All:
The parade is on. I have the application, just need to know what type of entry (truck, car, trailer, walking (yeah right!)) so the application can be sent in. I like the car idea, being a car from the decade. Anyone interesting in taking the reigns on this project let me know. Robin Davis Allen ('74) has already purchased some of the decorations for the parade vehicle. I'm working on the reunion. If you haven't received a letter, they are on their way, just waiting on a couple of inserts to include before mailing. Hope all plan to attend and please get your RSVP in early so we can have a count of how many will be attending for the caterers.
Pledging my all,
Barbie '79
*********************************
Ok, Bears, how 'bout it!? We need some help on
the parade so let me know if you would like
to participate in this and I will pass it on.
***********************************
To Carolyn Dean '79:
I'm sending this edition of the newsletter to you as a special request. If you would like to be on the mailing list just let me know and I will add your name.
Wish you could make it to the reunion, would love to meet you, but I understand. (One of my good friends, Sue '73, also lives in CA and won't be able to attend.) You may not be here physically but we know you will be here in spirit and in our hearts! I really appreciate all the work you have done on the web site and you have done such a great job! Keep up the good work. Thank you! Keep in touch!

Wow! Was I ever impressed!!! Your newsletter is wonderful. I love the name the bear cave and the writing on the wall. I loved all of the really cute pictures too. I loved everyone's input. I think your newsletter will really catch on and you will have hundreds before you know it. Yes, please do keep sending me the editions I love reading them. All I can say is you go girl!!!!!!!!!! You have started off doing just a marvelous job and I am so proud of you!!!!! I will suggest this to everyone I see that is from the decade of the '70's.

Also about the parade. I heard it suggested that every decade should have an old car from that era to drive in the parade with signs on each side saying Decade of the '50's - '60's or '70's. If you guys don't have time to do a float what about the car idea from the '70's. That would be easy to do.

Impressed,

Thank you so much, Erma! You made me blush!
You have been so supportive and encouraging to

A BIG BEAR WELCOME TO:
Debbie LaFountain (Sparks) '74
*******************************
To: All
I have a lot of good memories from the '70's but they are not from school! I am an old lady compared to all of you kids. Ed and I bought the rink in '72 from Lenard and Ruby Pemberton. As most of you know they have both passed away. They were both very special people and I loved them as though they were family.

I do remember that the '70's was when disco came in. We put the lighted dance floor, the disco lighting and the mirrored ball in the rink. Do any of you remember Christmas time at the Silver Wheel? Remember we use to put a Christmas tree that went all the way up to the mirrored ball and that was the ornament on top of the tree. The kids would do the hokey pokey circled around the tree.

Most of you probably remember my kids Renee' and Rachelle Champagne. I also had a son, Chad Stites, but we moved to Granbury and that is where he grew up so many of you may not remember him. Renee' took over the rink when Ed and I retired. Rachelle still lives in White Settlement and she has three girls, Crystal 19, Cheyenne 10, and TyLynn 7. Cheyenne is a peewee cheerleader this year and she is so excited. Crystal lives in Granbury with us. Cheyenne will be going to Tannahill and TyLynn will be going to West. Some of your kids or grandkids may know them.

Of course, I know Kay because she grew up at the rink. Her Mom use to be at the rink all the time helping Lenard and Ruby. I know just about all of her family because they all grew up at the rink. I know Laurie Cain because her little girl was a skater. Crystal use to have a mad crush on Chad Cain when she was little. We went to the coast one year on vacation and he went with us. What a good time we had and of course Crystal was thrilled that he was able to go with us. I remember Mina Cain also. When she graduated from Brewer she told us she wanted us to give her some skate covers for graduation and we gave her some of every color. Do any of you girls remember wearing pom poms or skate covers on your skates? Did any of you ever stay for the All Night Skates we had?

The newsletter is a place where we can share our memories. I hope to be hearing from some of you that skated at the rink and we can recall some good memories (maybe even some bad ones) ha! Some of you I don't know but maybe during Homecoming weekend I will be able to meet some of you. Since this is going to be Brewer's 50th. Anniversary, 1962's reunion and the decade of the '70's reunion there won't be any of us lacking entertainment. I hope all of you will be able to attend the Exes. Association Business Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17th. in the High School Library 6:00 - 8:00. Then at 8:15 - Till??? There will be a pep rally at the football field. On Friday, Oct. 18th. there will be the pep rally in the school gym. There will be an Exes. luncheon at Soda Springs at 1:00. Then Friday night, Oct. 18th. will be the big Homecoming football game against Granbury. After the game there will be a social with refreshments in the gym sponsored by the decade of the '50's. If you can't make the Business Meeting the gym will be a good place for you to pay your Exes. dues and buy your dance tickets for Saturday night. Of course, our Saturday, Oct. the 19th, is going to be a full day for the decade of the '60's and '70's because it will be reunion day for both of these decades. We will be having lunch in the high school lunch room and I guess you all will be having dinner there. Then that night I hope to see most of you at the Sokol Club.

I'm glad that you all are planning on having a float in the White Settlement Day Parade! I know the decade of the '50's and '60's are both going to have one so you guys just get in line with the rest of us. Also I think Bear Track's Newsletter is planning on having a float also. What about Bear Facts? Anyone want to plan a float for your newsletter?

I guess I have rambled on long enough. Thank you kids so much for letting me be apart of your newsletter. I will be looking forward to reading some of your memories.

Thank you Kay for all the hard work you do putting out this newsletter. I know from what Mary Kay goes through to put out her Bear Tracks that it is not an easy job. If anyone can handle the job you can!

Love you all.......Erma Stites '62

Thank you, Erma! That was great!
I don't think there will be a float this year for Bear Facts 70s due to all the other things I am involved in at this time, but there's always
next year!

Wow do I remember all the good times at the Rink!
I started on roller skates at the Silver Wheel when I was only 7 months old! My mom said that I learned to pull up while wearing skates and didn't even walk till I was 8 months old. Bob Pemberton was a yr. older than me and he had out-grown his baby skates so I got them till I out-grew them and then they were worn by many more kids that went to the rink. Somewhere I have a few old pics from the rink, I'll have to look for them.

I remember the pom-poms and skate covers! I had all colors of both, so did my niece, Kelly. I usually stayed for the late skate but never did do the all night ones. Wish I had though. How come my feet never hurt or I never got tired from all that skating back then? Now after about 10-15 minutes I have to sit down for a few! LOL! Couldn't have anything to do with not being as young as I use to, could it? Nah!!!!!!

I could go on and on but will save some for later! Thanks, Erma, for wanting to be a part of our decade and for your input. You are more than welcome!!!! And you are not an old lady by any means! I love you!

hey there you guys. there hasn't been much chatter goin' on here. kay needs all of our help even if it is only just to say hi and let everyone know you are still there. hahaha.

jerry '70, i am so proud to know that you have such a wonderful family. i was just teasing about you being so mean. i just don't remember much until i listen to others reminiscing and then a light bulb goes off and i remember the strangest things. i remember darrell mitchell. he was always a nice guy. my husband has worked for txu for 21 years here at comanche peak nuclear power plant at glen rose. we have lived here for 18 years. we have three children also, one boy two girls, and four grandchildren. the grandbabies are such a joy most of the time. their ages are 8 months to seven years, three boys and a girl.
i work at the small local newspaper here the glen rose reporter and life is slow. my husband and i travel somewhere every year but now that the kids are all grown we get to be a little braver in our destinations.
lets all try and keep this newsletter going. it is so much fun when it takes off. i have been involved in the 60s newsletter since the beginning. they let me in because i was the class of 69-70 but.... never went to school in the 70s. i got married the first time the summer of 69.

anyway good to here from you. keep in touch.

In kindergarten your idea of a good friend was the person who let you have the red crayon when all that was left was the ugly brown one.

In first grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the bathroom with you and held your hand as you walked through the scary halls.

In second grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you stand up to the class bully.

In third grade your idea of a good friend was the person who shared their lunch with you when you forgot yours on the bus.

In fourth grade your idea of a good friend was the persons who was willing to switch square dancing partners in gym so you wouldn't have to be stuck do-si-do-ing with Nasty Nick or Smelly Susan.

In fifth grade your idea of a friend was the person who saved a seat on the back of the bus for you.

In sixth grade your idea of a friend was the person who went up to Nick or Susan, your new crush, and asked them to dance with you, so that if they said no you wouldn't have to be embarrassed.

In seventh grade your idea of a friend was the person who let you copy the social studies homework from the night before that you had.

In eighth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up your stuffed animals and old baseball but didn't laugh at you when you finished and broke out into tears.

In ninth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who would go to a party thrown by a senior so you wouldn't wind up being the only freshman there.

In tenth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who changed their schedule so you would have someone to sit with at lunch.

In eleventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who gave you rides in their new car, convinced your parents that you shouldn't be grounded, consoled you when you broke up with Nick or Susan, and found you a date to the prom.

In twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pick out a college/university, assured you that you would get
into that college/university, helped you deal with your parents who were having a hard time adjusting to the idea of letting you go...

At graduation your idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside but managed the biggest smile one could give as they congratulated you.

The summer after twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you clean up the bottles from that party, helped you sneak out of the house when you just couldn't deal with your
parents, assured you that now that you and Nick or you and Susan were back together, you could make it through anything, helped you pack up for university and just silently hugged you as you looked through blurry eyes at 18 years of memories you were leaving behind, and finally on those last days of childhood, went out of their way to give you reassurance that you would make it in college as well as you had these past 18 years, and most importantly sent you off to college knowing you were loved.

Now, your idea of a good friend is still the person who gives you the better of the two choices, holds your hand when you're scared, helps you fight off those who try to take advantage of you, thinks of you at times when you are not there, reminds you of what you have forgotten, helps you put the past behind you but understands when you need to hold on to it a little longer, stays with you so that you have confidence, goes out of their way to make time for you, helps you clear up your mistakes, helps you deal with pressure from others, smiles for you
when they are sad, helps you become a better person, and most importantly loves you!

Thank you for being a friend. No matter where we go or who we become, never forget who helped us get there. There's never a wrong time to pick up a phone or send a message telling your friends how much you miss them or how much you love them.
You know who you are, pass it on to someone who you want to remind.

If you love someone, tell them. Remember always to say what you mean. Never be afraid to express yourself. Take this opportunity to tell someone what they mean to you. Seize the day and have no
regrets. The difference between expressing love and having regrets is that the regrets may stay around forever.

Most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today and are what it's all about anyway.
