September 11, 2002 is soon approaching. On that day, please wear red, white and blue to work, school or wherever you go, to show your support for those who lost their lives on 9/11/01 and to honor the heroes who worked to save them and the families left behind. At noon, your time on September 11, 2002, no matter where you are or what you are doing, stop, put your hand on you heart, and say the Pledge of Allegiance out loud or to yourself and say a prayer for our nation.
If all of us do this together in every time zone around the world, we will have a powerful chain of thoughts surrounding us. Please keep this going to your friends and family.
By September 11, 2002 hopefully enough people will
have read this and will join together in unity.
God Bless the U.S.A.

I would like to receive the newsletter please. I live in Idaho so it would help me keep up with what was going on with my former classmates. How do I receive it?

this is from Erma. She has sent this out to all of her 60s list and Mary Kay is putting it in Bear Tracks 60s. Even though it's not our decade it sounds lke fun and we thought some of you might enjoying going. Erma says that many from her list have responded and are just going to the show and not dinner.
Granbury Live has a matinee on Saturday, Sept. 14th. at 1:00. If any of you would like to call and make your reservations the number to call is 1-800-989-9062. If you would like to check out their website it is: http://www.granburylive.com. The concert is "Old Time Rock And Roll" and it is all about the decade of the '60s. I thought this would be a good time to get together and see a show from our era. The theater books up fast so I suggest you hurry and make your reservations, if you would like to go. I had suggested On The Rocks as a place to go have dinner afterwards but we probably need to make reservations for that also. Several have already e-mailed me that they would like to go. I don't know how we can get a for sure count because I know when we have get togethers at The Point and The Keys Club you never know how many will show up. Just everyone make their own reservations for Granbury Live and then let me know for sure how many want to go to dinner afterwards. Then we can decide where everyone wants to go and how many of us there will be. I will be making my reservations Monday. By the way, when I call to make my reservations I will tell them we expect a big crowd and maybe they can put us all in the same section. So when you call to make your reservations say you are with the C.F. Brewer High School group.
Hope to see some of you there,
Erma Barnes '62

Hi Kay! My name is Kim Sealy Baumer and I graduated from the class of 1975. I would really like to receive any Bear Facts memos or newsletters. I know several people from the early 70's classes from my sister Pam (class of '72) and my ex-brother-in-law Mike Stanford (class of '73). I am so excited about the 70's reunion and I am looking forward to seeing people I haven't seen in decades!!
Please put me on the mailing list. If I think of any memories or anything that may be of interest to you for the Bear Facts, I'll be sure and send you a message. Would you mind e-mailing me back and letting me know the web address for "Bear Facts 70's"? I just clicked on a link provided for me by Audrey Schauer Crist and I forgot to write it down!! To All:
from Jeannie Tomberlin Summerhill, class of 1964:
Kay, This may get a bit lengthy but we just wanted to add to the news that is coming out about Homecoming 2002 and let everyone know a few details about some of the activities being planned. I work with Myra Walker Jaynes, class of 1963 in the Superintendent's Office of White Settlement I.S.D. Myra is the Personnel Director for the district and I am the Supt's Secretary.
Tom Kearley, Communications Director for WSISD wanted to plan some special activities for the 50th Anniversary of Brewer High School. With this in mind, he contacted exes from each decade to serve on a committee and asked us to help him. Even though he knew that the Exes Association and classes and decades would have reunions and activities planned, Tom wanted the district to sponsor and add to activities planned by other organizations to make this a year of celebration. Thus, a 50th Anniversary Committee was formed last year and chaired by Tom Kearley. Even though Tom is not a Brewer Ex, he is a bear at heart having worked for WSISD since 1978. The committee has meet several times and laid the groundwork for activities throughout the 2002-03 year. The 70's decade representatives on the committee are Randy Armstrong and Vicki Griffin Hanson.
Homecoming was first and foremost in our planning. It has been exciting to watch the plans develop. We were disappointed that the parade date remained on October 5 after trying to get it changed to Homecoming weekend. We did consider having our own Homecoming parade, but that became quite complicated to pull off so now everyone is thinking of the White Settlement Days Parade as a kick-off for Homecoming and advertisement for the Brewer Exes and 50th Anniversary. The float plans sound fantastic and will be great fun.
The staff at Brewer High have also been in on the planning. We have a new Athletic Director/Head Coach, Wayne Coleman, at BHS this year. Coach Coleman has been a great help. He suggested that we have the first football team from 1952 serve as honorary captains and participate in the coin toss. They will wear jerseys with "their #" on them. Letters have gone out to each member of the first 1952 football team inviting them to participate. The Athletic Booster Club will give each one who participates a plaque and is putting pictures of the first football team, band, cheerleaders, pep squad and football sweetheart in their football program. The booster club will also be selling commemorative T-shirts.
The BHS Choir, directed by Kelly Sprowls, is planning a concert on Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. in McKinney Auditorium. The theme is "50 Years of Music Your Parents Listened To" complete with video presentation from each era. The choir will also perform pre-game on Friday.
The band, Sandra McCormick - Director, is planning a half-time program, complete with "Oldies". Sandra is also looking for band exes to play along. They will also accompany the drill team as they salute the past. The drill team director is Kelly Bolf Winn, class of 1980, and the assistant is Carla Coleman Nored, class of 1990. The Brewer High School Homecoming Queen will be announced during the half-time program.
The cheerleaders, sponsored by Stephanie Hanson, class of 1995, are planning to honor the 1952 cheerleaders in a pre-game presentation. They will also be selling "ribbons". Remember those?
Following the Exes Association Business Meeting at Brewer High at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, 10/17, there will be a community-wide Homecoming Pep Rally in Bear Stadium. (approximately 8:00 p.m.) Once again, we were disappointed that we are unable to have a bonfire. Due to liability and insurance problems and other risks, the city would not grant us a permit. Buuuutt, this pep rally is really going to be fun. Coach Coleman promises!
One of the most important events will be to name the White Settlement ISD Multi-Purpose Center in memory of one of our most special exes, Dorothy Griggs Morris, Class of 1956. Dorothy has been a vital part of the White Settlement ISD and Brewer High until her passing last year in 2001. Dot Griggs attended White Settlement schools from 1st grade to 12th grade. She was one of the first cheerleaders in 1952, played basketball leading the team to the Regional Finals. In one game, she scored 53 points and the opposing team scored 49 points. In the 60's, she worked as a secretary in the office at Brewer High. She helped to start Special Education programs in WSISD as a volunteer in the 70's and served on the WSISD Board of Trustees. She also was Administrative Assistant for Homer Dear, who was this area's state legislator from 1992 -1996 and his liaison for all school systems in his district which included WSISD. Dorothy was committed to this district and had a memory a mile long. We have really missed being able to call her to remember details regarding Brewer's past. A presentation to her family (her son Cliff graduated in 1978 and her daughter, Carol, graduated in 1980) will be made at halftime on Friday during the football game against Granbury. Following the football game, we will go to the Multi-Purpose Center where it will be dedicated and named the "Dorothy Morris Center". Following the dedication, Brewer High will host a social in the cafeteria for all Brewer Exes, their families, and friends.
On Saturday, there are several reunions being planned and of course the Exes Association dance at the Sokol Club.
Also, there will be a pep rally at Brewer High on Friday morning and exes lunch afterwards.
The 50th Anniversary Committee will be planning other events during the 2002-2003 school.
An "Old-fashioned Prom", sponsored by the 2003 Brewer High Senior Class, is in the works for the Spring, probably early April. The date and the plans are still tentative. More information will follow, but dust off your white coat and pink carnation, your formal and your dancing shoes. Be ready for the prom in the old gym at dear ole Brewer High.
Being a graduate of C. F. Brewer High School holds great meaning for all of us, but to be a member of the 50th graduating class is certainly significant. Graduation will be the last official event of the 50th Celebration Year. Tom Kearley is designing a commemorative medallion to be presented to each 2003 graduate by a 1953 graduate. "Passing On the Tradition".
We know that this a lot information but we wanted everyone to know what is being planned. We will send a more detailed schedule with times and dates when it gets closer to Homecoming. Hope everyone can make plans to come and be a part of the 50th celebration of C. F. Brewer High School and help "Pass On the Tradition".
Thanks, Jeannie and Myra

All,
The class contact information is in this week's Bomber news. I hope that we can start really getting responses from this. It is about the size of 2/3 a page so it can't be missed. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Hi Kay! I would love all the back issues of the Bear Facts! Like you, I am so interested in what everyone is doing, how their lives are going, etc. I don't know what kind of information you want to put in the newsletter--but I would be more than happy to tell you what I'm doing today and how my life is going.
As far as memories---I think one of my favorite memories revolves around one of my favorite teachers. Do you remember Marsha Roberts? She taught my sophomore biology class and I still say to this day that she was one of the best teachers I have ever had--hands down. Anyway, I remember the final she gave us at the end of the year. We had been studying cells, and she gave us a picture of a cell to study for a few minutes. Then she took the picture away and gave us a slide with several cells on it. The cell she had a picture of was somewhere in the mass of cells on the slide!! You had to pick out that cell and it was an "A" or "F" proposition!! You didn't get a second chance--you had to pick it on the first try or you were sunk!! I remember feeling so proud of myself when I picked the right cell. I learned so much in that class--she was hard--but she was great!!
I'll get back with you later on more memories!!
Kim

Thanks, Kim! Hopefully you have recieved all the
back issues by now, if not let me know!
If anyone else wants them just ask.

Hi......
This is from Donna Woodbury (Webb) class of 73.
I was in the Drill Team, and Cosmotology. Gave Coach White Hellllllllll and loved it.
Kay, it was great talking to you on Saturday.....Did we really talk for 4 HOURS..... It was great though. Well where to start?
I have been married for 26 years now to Paul. Paul graduated from Arlington Heights High School in the class of 1970. Alot of may know Paul, he was working at K-Mart there in Whitesettlement when we meet, thanks to Andy Downing,,,,,,Thanks Andy,,,, We married in 76 and in 79 we had our Pride and Joy,,,,Shanna Marie....She is now 23 years old and just graduated from Tarleton State University in December of 2001 with a Degree in Animal Sciences. She graduated from Arlington Heights with the class of 1997. She is working towards her Masters in Veterinary Medicine. She has worked full time for a vet since high school , (Lakeside Vet Clinic). Thank God since she seems to bring home every animal no one seems to take care of except for you Kay..... Shan rodeoed all through High School with the Arlington Heights Rodeo Team, me and Paul were the sponsors for the team..That was GREAT.......She did not do College Rodeo, thank God....Her grades could not have stood it, nor the money with all the traveling they do on the rodeo circuit in College. We have 2 dogs, MissyK a 13 year old Boston Terrior, Taylor a 7 year old 1/2 Austrian Sheppard 1/2 Blue heeler, 1 cat Angel 2 years old, (Shan found in a barrel behind her place when she lived in Stephenville, with the mom laying close to the barrel dead, so of course me and dad took a trip to her place and brought her here to take care of and love, one horse Gypsy (the rodeo horse for barrels and poles and team pening) now 26 years old and just a plasure horse. We also have one GRAND DOG.....our other little pride, Cheyenne. She is a 3 year old Boston. We even get to have gradnparents rights at lease once a month for the weekend. She went to college with her mom and was the little mascot for the Block and Bridle club at Tarleton State. Everywhere Shan went everyone knew Cheyenne went also.....
Thank God she is still Single.....As she says sometimes...GOT MY HORSE, GOT MY TRUCK, GOT MY ROPE AND MY DOG......NEED I ASK FOR ANYTHING ELSE.........AS SHE SAYS...HELLO......YES I NEED MY MASTERS IN VET MEDICINE,,,,,,,,,She will....
Some of you know some don't....My MOM is from the graduation class of 1955....

From:Roxane Rogers (Enos) '73:
My Forgetter
My forgetter's getting better,
But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke
For when I'm "here" I'm wondering
If I really should be "there"
And, when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!
Oft times I walk into a room,
Say "what am I here for?"
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
A zero, is my score.
At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is, generally, me!
When shopping I may see someone,
Say "Hi" and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, "who was that?"
(I can see that happening Oct 19! LOL!)
Yes, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.
CAN YOU RELATE??? Please send this to everyone you know because I DON'T REMEMBER WHO I SENT THIS TO!!!!
*<<<>>>*<<<>>>*<<<>>>*<<<>>>*<<<>>>*
Ok, Roxane, you didn't have to let everyone
know my secrert, cause I know that was written
about me! just kidding! LOL!

*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*
Hi everyone! This is Kim Sealy Baumer, class of 1975. I just got a chance to read the "Bear Facts" and I thought I had a couple of things I'd like to share with everyone.
I wrote Kay a few days ago and told of a favorite teacher of mine, Marsha Roberts. At work today, I was talking to a friend and I made the statement "You know, I can't remember any really fun times in high school." Then it struck me--junior year, a dance held in the "old gym" and the fun and hilarious things that happened at that dance! I remember forming a line and dancing like crazy to Grand Funk's "Locomotion." (Greatest dance song ever!!) I also remember Judy McNutt (Beaty) (believe me, she's going to kill me for telling this) having a little too much "koolaid" and going around the entire night carrying a small kitten and continually kissing it on the mouth!! The hilarious thing about this was Judy absolutely HATED cats!! She never did believe us when we told her about it the next day!! I still laugh when I think about it!
A little bit about me:
I've been married to Kenneth for 26 years.
We have two sons, both graduated from Brewer: Todd, age 25 and Matt age 21.
We live in Saginaw in our dream house that we have wanted since the day we got married. (dreams DO come true!)
No grandchildren, but two granddogs--Allie, a black lab, and Logan, a Yorkie (both Todd's)
We have two dogs (or kids, whichever you choose) Lucy, a one year old Yorkie, and Pepe, a 14 year old chiauaua
Kenneth has been at Lockheed for 25 years and plans on retiring in about 5 years
I went back to school in 1991, starting out at TCJC and finishing with my Bachelor's degree in Family Studies from Texas Woman's University in 1997. I also have done some master's level work at UNT.
I have worked as the women's counselor at a domestic violence shelter for the past five years. Although it has been very rewarding, I am now looking into getting my teaching certificate and teaching elementary school. (my first goal when I started college)
I am looking forward to the reunion hoping to see so many old friends and hopefully make new ones. I knew several people from the classes of the early 70's because of my sister Pam Sealy, and my ex-brother-in-law Mike Stanford. So, I'm hoping to see you all at the reunion!! Until next time---Kim
*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*
Mike Stanford '73 is one that we haven't been able to find for the reunion. If anyone has info on him,
or anyone else, please let me know.
*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*~^~*
I am so glad to see someone is keeping up with things.
I remember when I said I would never move to Dallas it was to BIG.
Well I now live in BIG D and love it.
I have my own business so any of you ladies needing any fashions or lingerie let me know.
Can't wait to see all ya in person.

Kay the following is about my cousin Jo Hardman Jordan, and her husband. Jo was class of 73 or 74, I'm not sure. My cousin Ken Edwards wrote the following, and I feel, like some Bear Prayer should be added also.
Thanks

As many of you are aware, Tom Jordan, my cousin's husband, of Ft. Worth, Texas, had brain surgery to "partially" remove a rapidly-growing malignancy (approximately the size of a golf-ball) last Sunday.
The doctor's prognosis was not encouraging; only 1 in 10 survive thru the 1st year. The immediate reaction was devastating. Even so, too many miracles to review at this time have surrounded the family, and all recognize that Heavenly Father's loving attention is being continually focused in providing His "peace that surpasseth all understanding".
At this time I am inviting all not only to join this prayer circle, but to forward this request to others within your reach to encourage them to pray for Tom and his family, and to continue to reach out and extend the invitation to others. Please reply to me with your geographical location so we can help coordinate the creation of a world-wide map which will identify the location of the army of Prayer Warriors. In turn, I will provide progress reports.
This is going to be a living example of how one candle can help bring light from all corners of our world., but even more importantly, how that light can be sustained for extended periods of time, if necessary. There is no quick fix here; your prayers and positive thoughts, and words of encouragement via email, will be needed until further notice.
Please send me any personal experiences you feel impressed to share, and we'll determine the best way to share encouragement across this network.
For a moment, place yourself in Tom's shoes: 47, otherwise extraordinarily healthy, an active, humble "servant", married to his sweetheart, Jo, for over 20 years; Father of Justin (19th birthday this past week) a student at Tulane University, now faced with withdrawing for the foreseeable future to help sustain the household; Father to Mallory (16) whose Girl Scout troop has created buttons that say "Team Jordan" as a reminder to pray and for support.
I will see that any of the prayer warriors who will notify me requesting a button, will get one.
Enough for now. Below you will find the latest report from Jo's sister, Nancy.
Tom Jordan came home from the hospital on Thursday evening. He was really glad to be home and in his own environment. Praise God that he has this time
with his family and friends.
(When I called, Tom had walked next door to visit with a neighbor!!)
The family is researching treatment options and now have an appointment at MD Anderson (Houston-300 miles away) on the 23rd. to possibly be a part of clinical trials that are occurring there.
His sister and brother-in-law are scheduled to return to Ohio on Tuesday. She (Pam) is an LVN(LPN) and a great Christian, She and David have brought great comfort to the family through their presence. Their Mother had a heart catheter and stint placement on Tuesday the 10th and Pam knows she must return to help there and take care of other responsibilities.
Prayer requests:
*The tumor completely stops growing and all cell growth is normal and healthy.
*Relief from pain and clear thinking for Tom.
*Peace and strength (and safety) for the family as Pam and David return to Ohio.
*Guidance and protection during treatment decision making.
*Spiritual impact on all concerned. God's word to be an important part of their life.
A load shared is 1/2 a load; A joy shared is twice the joy.
I pray that you will thoughtfully consider all of the above and respond as you feel prompted by the "Holy Spirit".
May Heavenly Father bless you with the righteous desires of your heart, is my prayer, offered in the name of Jesus Christ.

Ok, all you Bears out there, please keep Tom in
your prayers. I have added a candle next to my other
ones, and I light each one every night at 10pm.
Remember: There's strength in numbers!!!

To All:
I'm trying to locate Rita Sewell '62. She had an older sister in the class of 1960 and her name was Gloria Sewell. She had a younger brother but I don't remember his name. After she graduated she got married and moved to Odessa and that was the last time I heard from her. I think her married name is Ward but I'm not positive.
Thanks for your help,

TO ALL:
This year is also the 50th Anniversary for the Silver Wheel Skating Rink. There will be a reunion given in memory of Lenard and Ruby Pemberton on Sunday, Oct. 20th. from 1:30 - 5:00. The Silver Wheel is where most of us had our first job, met our first sweetheart, was our first hang out, it was our entertainment and it holds a lot of our childhood memories. I hope most of you will be able to drop by and skate (if you remember how) or just reminisce with old friends about all the good times that were spent there in your youth while listening to some music from yesteryears.

this was sent in by Vicki Wilson '74:
My mother used to ask me what is the most important part of the body. Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer.
When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy."
She said, "No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon."
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer. So this time I told her, "Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes."
She looked at me and told me, "You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind."
Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge and over the years, Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was, "No. But you are getting smarter every year, my child."
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying. Even my father cried. I remember that especially because it was only the second time I saw him cry. My Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa. She asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"
I was shocked when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between her and me. She saw the confusion on my face and told me, "This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived in your life. For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you were wrong and I have given you an example why. But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson."
She looked down at me as only a mother can. I saw her eyes well up with tears.
She said, "My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder."
I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?" She replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it."
Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one. It is sympathetic to the pain of others.
People will forget what you said...People will forget what you did but people will NEVER forget how you made them feel.
The origination of this letter is unknown, but it brings a blessing to everyone who passes it on.
Good friends are like stars...You don't always see them, but you always know they're there!
