WELCOME TO BEAR FACTS 70s! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A BIG BEAR WELCOME TO:
Pam Anderson '78!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
God welcomed home seven more heroes Saturday.
My sympathies and prayers go out, especially to those whose who were
waiting for their loved ones to return to earth by way of the space
shuttle Columbia.
May this time of grieving make us; 1. remember how dependant we are of a
greater guidance, 2. never to take anything for granted. 3. realize our
need to be there for our fellow man, even if we do not always agree with them
always.
(this was all written before Dyllon got sick!)
Just an updated on me and mine! Macey turned 25 on Oct. 20th, & Merick turned
20 on Dec. 7. Dyllon is doing really good and if all keeps going the way it has he
will be cancer free in late Nov. or early Dec. this year! That will be the best Christmas I could ever ask for! He will be 7 on Mar. 21st.
I have had a few sick kittens this winter and lost a couple of them but managed
to save most. My precious pig buddy, Brody, passed away the day before Xmas
eve. It was heartbreaking to lose him. He was very special and I don't think I will
ever get another pig.
Are any of you ready for a get together yet? I sure am!!! And, class of '73, we need
to start planning our 30 yr. reunion. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on that? If
you do please let me know. Any volunteers to get this thing started???? You all know I will be glad to help, too.
How 'boutcha Bears,
First, it's great news to hear that things are going better for Kay's son Dyllon!! Our thoughts and prayers are with y'all, KayBear!! I'd also like to commend Kay for the great job she is doing on the website too. I don't know where you find the time with all that's going on around you, but I just thought you deserved a big pat on the back for a job well done!! You go girl!!!
It's awesome to see the list of names growing on the website and I'd like to send a special shout out to all my classmates of 73!! Even though it's been 30 - 35 years since seeing most of yahs (left W.S. originally in 1968 and returned for a very short time in the Summer and early Fall of my senior year in 72/73), I just wanted to let you folks know that you'll always hold a special place in my heart. I still remember most of yahs and have fond memories of White Settlement, as well as, all my Brewer friends!! I'm afraid I have to confess, for some time now I haven't been keeping up with the Bear Facts 70s website. I know it's a poor excuse, BUT....ain't there's always a BUT, .... I reckon it was the hustle and bustle of the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays and all....things just seem to get so busy at times! Boy, do I feel like a guilty knucklehead with THAT excuse after reading some of the latest postings from y'all. I've decided to add another New Year's resolution to my ever so long 2003 list (truth is....like most folks, ....so much to fix...with even less time to do it in...Heh Heh)!! Whelp, I promise to do a better job of keeping up with y'all and the Bear Facts 70s website. I guess I've just been guilty of not taking the time. Gawd....I feel so much better now THAT'S off my chest....least till I backslide on this new resolution...Hee Hee!!
Wanted to send a special hello out to Arthur Brown and Ernest Pennington, two great friends from my first stint in the W.S. area. Ernest I saw your posting concerning your Spiderman drawing. I remember that occasion too, ...ain't it strange the things we remember from bein' a kid?? Oh, by the way, Ernest, thanks for the compliment on my drawing abilities....afraid it's an untapped resource these days, unless the kids need my help with a school project or something of that sort. Speaking of kids....I finally got tired of being a single guy in 89 and tied the not with a beautiful Georgia Gal named Nancy ...(she would tell you I finally met the perfect woman)....and God knows....who am I to argue with her, just like most perfect women.....SHE'S ALWAYS RIGHT!!....Tee Hee Hee.... At any rate, thanks to Nance bringing me to the light ....from what was most definitely the dark side....I now have two wonderful sons, Sean, my ever so large sports stud, now 13 and Cody, my brainiac, live wire and future thespian, who is, as he puts it, now 10 and three quarter years old. They are night and day when compared to each other, but just as any parent worth a pound of salt, they are the joy of my life. I've found that kids are just the greatest and that I wasn't really living until I got married and had'em. I wouldn't have wasted all those years chasin' women....(even though I never caught any....though I'd throw that one in there just in case the wife finds this site too...hee hee), if I had known how much I would enjoy bein' married. I've finally come to the realization that, for the most part, married life is what you make of it ....and I'm havin' a hoot!!
Speakin' of hoot, hey Arthur Brown, I still remember tons of great times we had together as kids. There are so many memories, but one of the greatest is the surprise Birthday party you and your family threw for me at your home prior to my leaving to go to Ohio in 68. Another of my fondest memories is how your Mom took the time to hand-make both you and I Nehru jackets. She made us some real trend setters in Jr. High, huh????...or at the least...set us apart as bein' out of our cotton pickin' minds. Yep, either way you look at it, there we were, 1968, in the all-American city of W.S., TX, wearin' Nehrus in 8th grade.....oh my gawd....what was the world coming too??? At any rate, God bless your Mom for taking the time!!
Whelp, speakin' of takin' the time, I just wanted to take the time to drop all my Brewer alum a fond how 'boutchas from the great state of Georgia. Georgia may be a great state, but I'll always be a Texan at heart!! Thought y'all might find the following as funny as I did.....hope so, at any rate. Hey, I'll be keepin' n touch....if'n I can just keep this darn New Years resolution. Seeyahs and God Bless yahs!!!
Question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your hand is a Glock .40 and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Liberal Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I really need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion.
Conservative Answer:
BANG!
Texan's Answer:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click... (sounds of clip being ejected and fresh clip installed)
Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"
Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw him move too..."
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daughter: "Nice grouping Daddy!
From Jeannie Tomberlin Summerhill, Class of 1964:
Old Fashioned Prom at Brewer High School in the Old Gym
Saturday, April 26, 2003
7:00 p.m 10:00 p.m.
There is a committee for the 50th Anniversary of Brewer High School that was formed last year to plan activities for the anniversary year of 2002-2003. The Communications Director for White Settlement I.S.D., Tom Kearley, is chairman of this committee and it includes several representatives from each decade, from the fifties through the nineties. Tom has been with the district for many years and he just asked exes that he knew and that live in the area to serve on this committee. Myra Walker Jaynes, class of 63, and I work for WSISD and we have been helping on this committee. There are several people from the high school that are also helping. This committee is only working on the 50th Anniversary Celebration and not on any of the class reunions.
The Prom/Social will be held at Brewer High School on Saturday, April 26, 2003, from 7:00 p.m to 10:00 p.m. in the Old Gym. The high school has been remodeled in recent years but the old gym is still much the same as when the school was first built. Adjoining the old gym is what is called the Commons Area. It also connects to the cafeteria. We will have all of this area which is quite a bit of space. The actual dancing will be in the old gym. Jason Ferguson, class of 94, and son of Larry Ferguson, class of 61,62, 63, 64, is going to be the DJ for the Prom. Jason is also a 5th and 6th grade teacher for White Settlement. The commons area and cafeteria will be open to allow more room for overflow and visiting. Tables and chairs will be set up in this area for when you need to take a breather from all that dancing. Refreshments will also be set up in this area. We are planning for a minimum of 500 people and can accommodate even more. This is no need to put a limit on the amount of people who may attend. The more the merrier!! Helen Hanson Barrett, class of 61, is on the 50th Anniversary Committee and graciously accepted the Chairman of the Prom committee and is making plans and getting sub-committees
to assist her.
The prom theme will focus on the 50s, since 1952 was the beginning of Brewer High School, and it was such a special time in the lives of the kids of the fifties, sixties and even the seventies. Even our own kids from the 80s and 90s decades love the fifties. It seemed appropriate to focus on this decade but by no means is this prom limited to the fifties classes. The dress will be 50s, but the apparel you wear really doesn't matter, just come and reminisce with old friends, and maybe dance a dance or two. We are talking about having a queen and king, spotlight dances, and maybe dance contests.
We want to try to reach all of the decades of Brewer High and make sure everyone is invited! We really hope that everyone will feel welcome and want to come to the Prom. We will be counting on everyone to spread the news. We will put notices in the newspaper but many people won't see that. There are too many people to try to send out personal invitations, so please help spread the word.
Everyone who has been a part of Brewer during the last 50 years is invited to the Prom/Social.
